Rouge Celebrates Black History Month
February is more than just the month of romance and presidents; it’s also Black History Month. As a company that is proudly diverse and inclusive, we are honored to celebrate Black History Month and acknowledge the many contributions of the Black community and legacy in United States’ history.
While preparing for our creative campaign, we also learned a ton. Did you know Black History Month originally started as just a week-long campaign? Neither did we – it goes all the way back to WWI and even predates suffrage! If you have some time, learn more about BHM here – it’s well worth the read.
This year, to celebrate, we selected tastemakers of the Black community who are recognized for their thought-provoking work and legacy across multiple fields and decades. From writers to athletes, filmmakers to musicians, each one is a global icon and pioneer (#goals).
Black History Month, originally just a week, was founded in 1915 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson and formally recognized in 1975 by President Ford. President Ford extended recognition to the entire month of February in 1976 and the US Congress formally passed it into law in 1986. You can learn more about Black History Month and how to be involved here.
